For more than 70 years, Glens Falls Lions have served the needs of the community as part of Lions Clubs International, the largest service organization in the world.
In a famous speech at the 1925 Lions International Convention in Cedar Point, Ohio, Helen Keller urged the Lions to be “Knights of the Blind,” fighting the darkness for herself and other. “Will you not help me hasten the day when there shall be no preventable blindness; no little deaf, blind child untaught; no blind man or woman unaided?” she challenged those present. The Lions gladly took up the gauntlet.
Today, there are 1.4 million Lions in more than 44,600 clubs active in 189 nations and geographic areas.
We provide funding for glasses, eye exams, and hearing aids for needy area residents, as well as pre-school vision screenings for children throughout the region.
In order to support these many programs and organizations, we raise money throughout the year. You may have seen us at the Adirondack Balloon or LARAC Festival, selling pizza and hotdogs! . We also hold an annual golf tournament in the Spring and an annual Duathlon in the Fall.
